Greg Fernie

Greg Fernie

Ipsum Group Chief Executive Officer


Greg has over 20 years’ experience in the Utilities and Infrastructure Markets. He joined D J Ryan and Sons as a management graduate whilst studying ‘Management in Utilities’ at Manchester Business School. He went on to spend four years with D J Ryan and Sons before following the senior Directors to Enterprise Plc where he spent a further two years progressing through the operational ranks.

This was followed by four years at Bethell Power Services where Greg held the title of Operations Director. He played a key role in growing the business revenues from £5M to £50M across a number of utilities sectors and with a broad customer base. The business was subsequently sold to Enterprise Plc.

Following his successful 10 years’ in the contracting market, Greg was appointed Operations Director for United Utilities. He led the growth of their New Connections and Non-regulated businesses, prior to helping United Utilities divest their Non-regulated business in the UK and oversees.

In 2010 Greg joined the main board of Electricity North West as Operations Director, as well as retaining the position of Managing Director for their Customer Network Solutions business. He later took on the role of Commercial Director playing a key part in Electricity North West becoming the most efficient Electricity Distribution Network in the UK.

During his time at Electricity North West Greg also studied Strategic Negotiating and Dealmaking at Harvard Business School.

In parallel to this, Greg was the Chairman of Warmzones, a not for profit business in the fuel poverty sector. He was also a Trustee for the charity; National Energy Action.

Lynne Fulton

Lynne Fulton

Ipsum Group Commercial Finance Director


Lynne has over 20 years’ experience in the Utilities market. Lynne initially joined North West Water International in 1993 as a Finance Assistant. After completing a BA (Hons) in International Business Administration, in 1998 and whilst gaining ACCA Professional, Lynne was appointed as Systems Manager and was seconded to Catchment Limited, a consortium between North West Water International, International Water and Morrison Construction. The consortium owned and built the first Private Finance Initiative Wastewater Treatment Schemes in Scotland.

In 2003 Lynne joined Mowlem for two years working as Commercial Finance Manager on multi utility connections and a further two years working for Alfred McAlpline as a Commercial Finance Manager on Gas and Water projects across the UK.

In 2007 Lynne joined Electricity North West where she worked for over nine years, latterly as Head of Business Performance. During this period Lynne was responsible to the Operating Board for business planning of the company’s £1bn capital programme and the delivery of a £130m efficiency programme.

In 2016 Lynne joined Capita Plc as Head of Finance for Networking Solutions (Voice). As a turnaround of a failing business, the role extended into broader commercial, business and people management, allowing Lynne’s strong interpersonal skills and team working ethos to came to the fore. While her keen eye for detail provided the empirical evidence, the business achieved 133% of target, as a result of her leadership and ability to influence subordinates, peers and senior management, to affect genuine change.

John Fitzpatrick

Ipsum Group Operations Director


John has over 30 years’ experience in the Construction, Utilities, Infrastructure and Facility management sectors, where he has held a number of senior roles both in the UK and the Middle East. John’s knowledge and experience has built him a reputation for excellence and business growth.

John joined Turriff Construction as a management trainee which was later bought out by Bernard Sunley, John quickly moved through the operational ranks working for Regional and National Tier 1 contractors for over 25 years with likes of Gleeson and Alfred McAlpine.

John has been instrumental in shaping the direction of the organizations he has worked for, and his determination to succeed; combined with an ability to develop client focused solutions, has been a key factor in helping the companies he has worked for, secure a first-class reputation in the market for exceeding customers’ expectations. His strong focus on health and safety resulted in securing bronze, silver and gold awards both within the Rospa and the Considerate Constructors Scheme.

John’s passion for operational improvements in the performance of a business means he strives to consistently deliver a quality service, with a key focus on safety, quality, delivery and budget. This continuous improvement led him, in 2012, to be head-hunted to take up a Directorship position for a joint venture with Cushman & Wakefield and Aspire Katara Investments to deliver prestigious schemes across Qatar.

Prior to joining Ipsum, John was accountable for the Project delivery and P&L of a 750,000 sqm luxury development valued at £1.8 Billion in the heart of Dubai, consisting of several components such as luxurious residential units, commercial buildings, numerous High rise, high schools, leisure facilities, infrastructures, energy center and utilities.

John holds a Bachelor of Science degree in construction management, alongside health & safety and project management certificates.

Karen Harding

Ipsum Group Head of Human Resources


Karen has over 12 years’ HR experience in the outsourcing sector.  Following completing a BA Hons degree in English at the University of Birmingham, Karen initially specialised in recruitment before moving into a generalist HR role at Alfred McAlpine Infrastructure Services (AMIS).

After spending two years at AMIS, Karen joined Capita Plc as HR Operations Partner where she spent four years supporting leadership teams, firstly, in the Capita Symonds division and, latterly, in the Life & Pensions division.

Karen joined Kier Group Plc in 2012 where she worked as HR Business Partner for seven years in the Workplace Services division before joining Ipsum Group as Head of HR in February 2019.

Karen has extensive strategic and operational experience delivering the people plan, driving organisational and cultural change and leading the HR agenda in complex business transformation programmes, large-scale restructures and TUPE transfers within both the public and private sectors.

Karen is a Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel & Development (CIPD).
